My Wedding Day!

March 19, 2011 – This day was my wedding day. I woke up at 7am to one of my bridesmaids coming in the hotel room saying “GOOD MORNING LADIES!!! YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED!!” lol. The previous night after rehearsal dinner and decorating, my girls and I got two hotel rooms to stay in town since we had an early morning the next day.

So I get up and throw on jeans and a zip up hoodie and we go to Denny’s for breakfast. By now, I’m kinda awake enough to be feeling nervous. I wasn’t nervous about marrying Matt, I KNEW I wanted to. I was nervous about the day and what it had in store and all the details. Needless to say, I barely ate any of my breakfast. When we were done eating, I wrote with Bethany and Amanda to go to the hair salon… on the way there, Bethany remembered she forgot a strapless bra, and I had forgotten fip flops… and I had no other shoes with me except my heels from the previous night’s dress.

We run into a dollar store, grab me some flip flops and Bethany a strapless bra. Then it was on to the hair salon. When I got there, they came out to start on our hair. I was first and she started putting my hair in rollers while someone else started on Bethany and another person tried to start on Sarah’s hair. As it turned out, Sarah had too much hair for the one girl to work with, so she had to wait for Bethany to be done and the other girl to finish her hair. My hair would NOT cooperate that day like it had so well on my trial run. I thought I would start to freak out that it wouldn’t look perfect, but I remained calm. I even remained calm when something got in my hair and they had to stop doing everyone else’s hair to get it out of mine. Turns out the girl doing my hair had set the curling iron too close to a plastic bucket and it had melted some plastic onto the iron and she didn’t see it before she used it to curl my hair. Soooo, I had plastic in my hair and by the time she had found it and realized what it was, it had hardened again… I thought it was funny, and still do lol. Of COURSE something had to go awry on my wedding day. It’s expected haha.

So once everyone’s hair is done, we go to the church. Mom was already there. She left after she got her hair done to do some last minute errands and get stuff to the church. When we got there, everyone helped carry stuff in, as well as their dresses. By now, it was just around 11am… we were ahead of schedule. Shortly after, my photographer and his wife showed up. She was there to do our make-up… so I sat down first… While that was happening, Amanda ran to get me some chicken nuggets haha because I was starving…. After I got my makeup done, mom went then Sarah, then Bethany. I’m not sure what time it was then, but I had to start getting dressed around 12:30 or so because I had my pictures at 1:15. We got all those done, and Jake came in so he could be in the family shots and stuff. After I was done, I hurried downstairs so Matt wouldn’t see me while he came in for his pictures. Once I was downstairs, I stayed down there until 3:25. I was getting so nervous. I kept thinking I had to pee, and my girls were laughing at me because I told them I have to pee when I get nervous. I was walking around and so were my girls. I had garter stockings that I had tried to put on with bra straps but my feet kept slipping out of my shoes, so I had to take them off… Actually, Amanda had to get under my dress and take them off…. Haha. Then as I was walking to go sit down, my dress snagged Bethany’s, and we were stuck for a while… But we got unstuck.

THENNNN, his mom came in.

In a white dress.

A short, mini, strapless dress.

A dress that she was NOT originally going to wear.

I was so upset and so hurt that my own mother in law to be would ruin my wedding day by wearing a white dress. My mom had a long dress on, and his mom was supposed to match her. The groom’s mom waits to get her dress until after the bride’s mom, so they won’t clash. Well, they clashed…BIG time… Thanks to Julie.

3:25 rolled around and that is when we went to go line up in the foyer. (Funny, I’m getting the nervous feeling again as I’m reliving it to tell it here in the blog…) At this time, the mom’s were walking down to our vocalist singing “Mama’s Song’ by Carrie Underwood, and they were lighting the family candles.

Right at 3:30, the music started, Cannon in D, and my girls started to walk down the aisle. After they all had made it down, dad took my arm and I walked to the top of the steps. I remember hearing my music start and everyone standing up. I remember seeing the top of Matt’s head as people were rising. And his gaze never left me. I remember turning the corner to come down the aisle and feeling so suffocated by seeing exactly how many people were there. Every pew was full and they all were peering out at me. I remember whispering to dad “There is so many people here!” He chuckled and kept walking me.

We got up to the pastor and the ceremony started. I don’t remember every exact detail, but I remember dad giving my hand to Matthew, and him kissing my cheek. Then I remember him turning to go sit back down, and tripping over my train… (it was a HUGE train!) Here is a picture of it:

So then Matt and I walked up the steps and the ceremony got under way. I remember one point, a song played, The Lord’s Prayer, and then I remember lighting the unity candle. I remember talking at one point during that part, because it took forverrrrr. I remember his crying at one point in the ceremony. He kept whispering, “You’re beautiful.”

The next thing I remember after placing the rings on each other’s fingers, was the kiss, and I don’t think I was ready for that, because in the picture, my arms are just at my sides…. Haha! So we walk back up the aisle and have the receiving line. Once everyone passed through, Matt and I left the church in his Aunt’s awesome car while everyone was waving their ribbon wands. We circled the block and came back for pictures.

Then we went to the reception site…. And we got everyone lined up to be announced. My parents were there. His mom wasn’t. She never went to the reception site…. They went to a bar. So she wasn’t there when she was introduced as the groom’s mom. Her loss (I’m still mad at her for the dress).

Anyway, the introducing was AMAZING! We had the song “I’ve Got A feelin’” from the Black Eyed Peas playing and every single one of our wedding party members DANCED their way in as they were being introduced. It was AWESOME. Matt went crazy when it was our turn! It was SO MUCH FUN!

After that, everything is a blur. We sat down, Kirk prayed, we got up to eat. Then it was the best man and maid of honor’s toast. Then we cut the cake… I asked him to be nice about it, but he smudged icing all over my face, so I grabbed cake and put it all over his face. I had cake down my dress and in my bra! I had his aunt and my mom help me clean up! Lol

Then it was time for our dance. We danced to “Then” by Brad Paisley. Then it was the father/daughter dance, and it was “I Loved Her First” by Heartland. Oh my gosh, I bawled, and my dad cried, the entire song…. Then it was Matt and his mom’s dance. After THAT, we had a special dance with my parents to their wedding song. Once that was over, I think it was time for the garter toss and bouquet toss. Matt got down on all fours and went under my dress and took my garter off with his teeth!! It was SO hilarious! When he tossed it over his head, all the guys stepped away from it… I guess it’s a typical thing… no one wants to catch it because no one wants to be the next one to get married… I don’t know… Then I tossed my bouquet, and my bridesmaid, Bethany caught it!

After all that special stuff was done, it was just all dancing the rest of the night. It was seriously, the best reception I’ve ever been to! It was awesome! When the party was over, dad drove Matt and I to the hotel in Angie’s car…. Once in the hotel room, Matt helped me take alllll the bobby pins out of my hair.

I’m not writing about what happened after that… ;)

I’ll write another blog about the honeymoon another time :)

Later!
